Baseball rules that shape the lineup
Rules vary by organization and age group, so check your league’s current rulebook. These are the baseball rules coaches plan around most.
Pitch counts and rest days
Little League sets a daily pitch maximum by division (50 pitches at ages 7 to 8, 85 in Majors) and, for league ages 14 and under, requires rest after each outing: up to 20 pitches needs no rest, 21 to 35 needs 1 day, 36 to 50 needs 2, 51 to 65 needs 3, and 66 or more needs 4. High school pitch counts are set by each state association.

In Little League, a catcher who has caught 4 or more innings can’t pitch that day, and a pitcher who has thrown 41 or more pitches can’t catch that day. Plan the battery before you plan the rest of the field.
Batting order and the designated hitter
Little League Minors through Juniors use a continuous batting order, so everyone on the roster bats. High school (NFHS) uses a traditional order with an optional designated hitter.
Minimum play
Little League requires every player in Minors through Juniors to play at least 6 defensive outs and get 1 at-bat. Rec leagues often add their own minimums.

What can I do here without signing up?
Add up to 20 players, set a batting order, and manually assign the nine baseball positions (pitcher, catcher, first, second, third, shortstop, and three outfielders) for 3 to 5 innings. Print the lineup card and a first-inning field diagram. Your work stays in this tab and is lost when you reload or leave; print it before closing the page.
Can I generate a baseball lineup automatically?
Auto-generation is in the full app. Set your team’s rules, generate a lineup, and review the assignments and any conflicts. This free page is a manual builder; it doesn’t check pitching eligibility or league rules.
Does the lineup maker track pitch counts and rest days?
Not on this free page. In the full app, you record pitch counts after each game, and the lineup builder flags pitchers who are not yet eligible to pitch. For a quick lookup of required rest, use the pitch count calculator.
Should my baseball batting order include every player?
That depends on your league. Little League Minors through Juniors bat the whole roster in a continuous order, while high school baseball uses a traditional order with an optional designated hitter. In the full app, you choose the batting-order style and designated hitter setting for your team.
