How to Fill Out a Baseball Lineup Card

Write your team name, opponent, and date at the top, then list each player in their batting order from 1 down. Next to each name, note their jersey number and their starting fielding position using the standard scorekeeping numbers (1 = pitcher through 9 = right field). Use the subs section to track bench players and planned substitutions. Most youth leagues require you to hand a copy to the opposing coach and the umpire before the game.

Continuous Batting Order vs. Nine

Many Little League, rec, and travel teams bat the entire roster (a “continuous” order) so every player hits. Pick 10, 12, or 15 batting slots above if your league bats more than nine. Defensive positions still only use nine players on the field at a time.
